The Interreg MED Joint Secretariat together with the Task Force is shaping the new Interreg Mediterranean Programme starting in 2021 and ending in 2027. For this reason, we need all current and potential Mediterranean stakeholders, to give their opinion about the different options to design the future Programme.

Your answers will provide us with valuable insights and help us define our priorities, types of projects, objectives and results to be achieved by 2027.

Just as reminder, the Interreg MED Programme currently (in the period ending in 2020) gathers 13 European countries from the Northern shore of the Mediterranean. Together, they are working and will continue working towards achieving an environmentally friendly economy and a Europe closer to its citizens.

For the moment, the Programme covers 57 regions from 10 different EU countries and 3 candidate countries to the EU. However, this geography may change in the future programme and include new regions. For the period 2021-2027, the European Commission envisaged a number of important changes in the way the European Territorial Cooperation (ETC) is designed and implemented, in particular in the Mediterranean area and in the current programme characteristics.

However, the transnational programmes’ objective will remain the same: they will continue to focus on projects that share experiences and best practices to provide solutions to common problems, influence the course of policies and ultimately improve citizens’ daily lives. Transnational programmes are not intended to commit major investments or finance infrastructure under the responsibility of regional or cross-national European programmes.
